Glomus Tumor of the Stomach

Abstract
Submucosal tumors of the stomach are not uncommon among the primary gastric tumors, and are, if found, mostly leiomyoma/leiomyosarcoma and malignant lymphoma. Rarely are visceral glomus tumors which can occur at any place of the body, and the
stomach
has been documented with extreme rarity, and a single case has been described in Korean literature.
A 34-year-old woman had intermittent epigastric pain, nausea and anorexia. An upper gastrointestinal X-ray examination revealed an intramural mass in the antrum of the stomach. The abdominal computed tomograph confirmed a well defined,
multilobulated
solid tumor mass density with homogeneous enhancement. Gastrectomy specimen contained a 4cm-sized submucosal mass with central mucosal ulceration in the antrum and the tumor occupied the submucosa, proper muscle and subserosal layer. The basic
histologic findings were identical with those seen in other sites. Immunostainings on the tumor cells expressed alpha-smooth muscle actin and vimentin, but were negative for desmin and Factor VIII-related antigen. UI trastructure showed uniformly
round
tumor cells containing filaments with focal condensation, many pinocytotic vesicles along plasma membrane and basal lamina. To our knowledge. this is the second case of glomus tumor which can occur in a form of submucosal tumors of the stomach in
Korea.
